After your workout, there are many things you can do to help with recovery so you come back stronger, faster and prepared. It is important you get rest and actually take recovery seriously as there are risks for injury, which will only hinder your fitness goals.

Eat Protein and Whole Food

Whole food like protein, vegetables, fruits and yogurt help with recovery because they replenish carbohydrates you lose during your run or workout. Protein helps with repair of your muscles and helps with energy recovery. Opt for whole food instead of eating processed food to get the necessary nutrients for your body.

Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep is important, as this is the time where your body aids your immune system, repairs the tissues in your body and growth hormones are released, helping with faster recovery. It also helps mentally refresh your mind for the next day and every morning you wake up in your new condo at Amberwood at Holland.

Do Some Stretching

When taking rest days it is advised to do some light stretching and walking around instead of being a couch potato. This keeps your joints and muscles warmed up and flexible, improves blood circulation and helps relax your nervous system.

Stay Hydrated

A person needs 8 glasses of water a day to flush out dirt in your body, prevent the risk of dehydration and stroke, and provide the needed nutrients to help in muscle recovery. It also keeps our blood volume in check, prevents cramps and muscle tightness.

Have a Massage

Other than light stretching, you can use massaging as a means of therapy post workout. Use a massage gun or roller on your targeted sore muscle, improve blood flow and help with the tightness in your muscles. Remember when it hurts, pull away. This is supposed to help with recovery, not hurt, so if it does you are doing something wrong and do not force it.
