A spectacular 33-hour cell division summarized in a beautiful 23-second time lapse

There is nothing more wonderful than being able to enter a microscopic world, where fascinating things happen that our eyes are not able to perceive with the naked eye. Now thanks to technological advances we can enjoy real shows that previously only existed in theory within our biology classes.

Francis Chee is a filmmaker who specializes in educational documentaries and short films on scientific and animal behavior issues, most of his works are time-lapses where he uses macro and microscopic photography, all with the aim of showing us a world that few know. His most recent work is beginning to go around the world marveling at millions of people since for the first time we can see live how a cell division looks.

No, it’s not CGI … well, according to Francis Chee

The following video could well be considered a computer-made animation, however, Chee emphasizes that everything we will see was recorded live over a period of 33 hours. This short video, of just 23 seconds, shows us the cellular division of a temporary frog, known as a common frog, in a timelapse format, where the wonderful division into millions of cells is clearly perceived over time.

Chee explains that to make this video he had to make a special microscope with “infinite optical design”, where he built the optics and LEDs from scratch, and everything was captured on a table with an anti-vibration system, which served to Capture this amazing video.

The result is so incredible that it seems false, so both the comments of the same video and some media that have collected the news mention that it is false. Therefore, Chee has come to present a new video where the continuation of the cell division is seen and focuses on the development of the zygote becoming a tadpole. Here the end of the video deserves special attention, which is an approach to blood flow within the embryonic gills.
