Time to lop of those long locks ladies, because this spring-summer, short is surprisingly sweet when it comes to hairstyles.
Word to the wise: short doesn’t have to equal severe and the bob cuts that have been spotted on celebs and catwalks alike are proving that femininity is still perfectly fine. Wispy layered cuts are framing long faces, blunt fringes are teamed with messy bobs, and curls have gotten to the girls with waves and tresses on the rise. It’s all about volume, texture and freedom as the thermometer rises, and it’s the perfect complement for the decorative prints and fashion we can expect this summer.
And who said blondes had more fun? Think strawberry blonde, earthy browns, and chocolates when it comes to this season’s colour. This time, let the cut do the talking.
B&NW asked the owner and head stylist of Charlie Oscar Mens Hair, Sandy Marini, about her predictions for spring, and the results were inspiring.
1. What’s the big look for this spring? The big look for this year is a case of ‘‘out with the new and in with the old’’. The short classic look is the go – or at least an old hairstyle with a modern twist. In 2010 men’s hairstyles will have less of the textured touselled look and more of the tapered and slicker shapes. Guys with straight hair should stick to a longer cut on top while guys with wavy hair go for short top.
2. Whose hair are you just loving? Right now George Clooney has a large influence on many classic styles. His sharp parted and slick-back looks ooze class.
3. What have you noticed from overseas that you think will catch
on here? The big thing abroad is daily skin and hair routine. For many men this has become a great way to start the day and feel good about their appearance. Years ago it was slap on some shaving cream, razor it off, slap on some aftershave and throw in some hair gel. Now guys are using pre-shave balm, after-shave moisturisers, shave oils and many hair products that cater for all different looks including dry (fiber), wet (pomade), textured (defining paste) and classic (classic wax).
4. What can I do to take my hair from winter to spring-summer? That’s simple: Come on lads, cut it off.
5. What new product can you not live without? I can’t live without my American Crew Classic Body Wash. I’ll never use soap again! Perfect start to the day.
