STUDENTS at Charles La Trobe College have lost their free ride after the school was forced to cancel the provision of a school bus due to misbehaviour.
The school had agreed to fund a free bus this year to ferry students from their former schools in Heidelberg West and Bellfield to the new campus in Macleod, following the merger of four schools.
Teachers had initially been rostered to supervise students on the bus, but overtime costs led to the teachers' withdrawal, and the buses being unsupervised. Charles La Trobe College principal Maria Karvouni said the school council had decided to scrap the bus service as a result of the rowdy behaviour of some students.
"There were a few kids who were quite disruptive. It's a shame a lot of the kids who were [well-behaved] lose the service, but it is about communal responsibility," she said.
Ms Karvouni said the school had offered support to parents who would struggle financially to get their children to school.
