Bottomline: Pollie and shoe-shiner to boot

POLITICIANS do some strange things for a photo opportunity but shoe shining is rarely one of them.

Yet federal Labor MHR Jenny Macklin was only too happy to get her hands dirty polishing football boots for a good cause last week.

On Friday, Ms Macklin was scheduled to spend an hour polishing donated footy boots for vision impaired people as part of the Boots For All program.

On her salary – estimated at roughly $310,000 a year before entitlements – that must cost the taxpayer about $160 an hour.
